You may have heard of a study done at Harvard between 1979 and 1989 in which Graduates of the MBA program were asked “How many of you set clear written goals for your future and made plans to accomplish them?”
Among those students:
- Only 3% had written goals and plans
- 13% had goals but not in writing
- 84% had no specific goals at all
10 years later Harvard interviewed the same members of that exact class to discover:
1. The 13% with goals that were not written down were earning on average twice as much as the 84% who had no goals.
2. The 3% with written goals were earning approximately 10 times as much as all other graduates.
Well that study is a hoax. It never happened. However, a study was done by Gail Matthews at Dominican University which concluded:
"Those who wrote their goals accomplished significantly more than those who did not write their goals."

Here's my two cents. In an era of smart phones we deny ourselves the benefits of writing by hand verses texting. Writing enhances our creativity, deductive reasoning and commits what we write to memory much more effectively than typing.
